The Matteotti Affair

ROME, August 23. Le Sereno says that the investigations carried out yesterday by its reporters in the Matteotti affair allow to establish with precision:

1° that it was not the assassins who made Matteotti's body disappear;
2° that it was a second gang that buried the body in the woods of Quartarella two days after the murder;
3° that the grave was watched daily;
4° that the members of the second gang are still at large.

Le Sereno also assures that the rumor according to which new arrest warrants have been issued against persons at large is without foundation.

The arrest warrants, issued in recent days, target persons already behind bars and relate to related cases. It is therefore a simple formality.

Incidents between fascists and antifascists.

Verona is called to the Sereno: In Lendimara, near Rovigo, a group of fascists stopped all the vehicles returning from Fratta Polesine and all the travelers, found in possession of Matteotti's souvenir postcard, were beaten with sticks. Among them, Mr. Valeri, a well-known industrialist and former president of the provincial council of Verona, was quite seriously injured on the head.
