Professionalism on the move According to our colleague "Sporthirlap" from Budapest, several major clubs from Vienna, Prague and Budapest have decided to create a professional group in Central Europe. Until now, only Great Britain had a professional organization worthy of the name and for those who know the popularity of football in the major capitals of Central Europe, there is no doubt that professional football is as successful there as it is across the Channel. This news does not surprise us at all. During the Olympic Games, a Hungarian journalist told us that all the players in that country were paid by their clubs and that this was the reason why they had not given their all, for fear that an accident would take away their commercial value. In Austria, this is well-known and the clubs are incorporated as public limited companies that pay dividends. This is also done in Spain and elsewhere. |
