LITTLE STORIES FROM THE WIDE WORLD

Hermès in the land of dollars
The new Greek government has offered to send the famous statue of Hermes by Praxiteles to the United States, as a sign of homage from the youngest Republic to the great American democracy.
If this offer is accepted, a warship will come to Piraeus to take the precious marble which will travel to the United States in a special model car; a Greek professor will accompany him and give a lecture on Greek sculpture in all the cities that will be visited.
This exhibition of the god of commerce cannot fail to have great success in the land of “business”.

Wet transatlantic boats
As a result of the recently signed Anglo-American treaty which authorizes English ships to transport the wines and liquors necessary for passengers and crew, on the outward journey and return, subject to the right recognized to the American authorities to stop and visit ships suspected of smuggling can be steamed up to an hour from the American shore.
The Berengaria, from the Cunard line, which left Southampton for New York yesterday morning, was able to carry 20,000 bottles of beer, 600 bottles of whiskey and gin, and 700 bottles of champagne.
From now on, all transatlantic passengers leaving England will be equipped with their full supply of alcohol. The crossings will be less sad.

The daily press in the capitals
A statistic has been established on the number of daily newspapers in relation to the population of the main capitals of Europe.
In London, there is one daily newspaper per 290,000 inhabitants; in Berlin, one per 90,000 inhabitants; in Warsaw, also one per 90,000 inhabitants; in Vienna, one per 85,000 inhabitants; in Paris, one per 65,000 inhabitants; in Rome, one per 70,000 inhabitants; in Brussels, one newspaper per 60,000 inhabitants.
It is therefore Brussels which has comparatively the most newspapers. Paris comes next. Should we complain about it or praise it?
