He earned his living, as a cutler, in a small village in the county of Essex and, on the other hand, sporty like all his compatriots, he had given himself body and soul to "the queen of the road", the supple and fast bicycle. Thanks to his luck and strong muscles, it didn't take long for him to become the local champion of his province.

Glory held out his arms to him, a bright sporting future opened up before him, but he had to work to live. How to combine the needs of the profession and training?
