The suppression of the Monte-Carlo athletic games was a disastrous blow to regional women's sport. Many companies hardly survived these brilliant festivals which, although they were almost entirely spectacle, nonetheless had the merit of creating great emulation. Some clubs, however, persevered, working in silence but not without fruit; we mean above all Femina-Sports of Monaco and the Eclaireurs Français of the Côte-d'Azur, whose prosperity is satisfactory judging by the number or the value of the athletes who represented them on Sunday, in the qualifiers for the National Cup of 'physical education. This event, organized by F.F.F.G.E.F., took place at the charming Stade Meynet, at the Parc Impérial. The Monegasques easily won the prize by 425 points against 321 for the Niçoises des Eclaireurs Français, which is not bad for the latter since their formidable opponents hold the Cup. Individually, success favored Miss Brice, then, in order: Misses Marie and Marthe Musso, Legeret, Masino, all from Monaco. Miss Vial, the only competitor of the Avant-Garde Gauloise de Nice, distinguished herself by taking sixth place ahead of the other Niçoises. It was, overall, a beautiful and interesting meeting, as many would need to raise the prestige of women's sport. We wish Femina Sports, who will participate in the final, to repeat their brilliant victory last year in Paris. H.D. |
